Drilling Hole From Floor To Basement

Where and how to drill joists for electrical cables or plumbing runs depends on what type of floor framing you have.
Drilling hole from floor to basement. Learning how to run the cable from basement to the second floor. Keep the hole at least 2 in. Replace the drill in the pilot hole ensuring that the drill is perpendicular surface. Continue drilling with ever increasing drill sizes until the size of hole you require is attained.
Start the drill and push forward with firm but not heavy pressure. A standard drill bit is not large enough to make such a hole. As much as you will be using the core drill a standard drill is still required in the initial stages to make the guide hole before you can fully switch to a core drill. We will discuss the process later in this.
Do not try to jump sizes too fast as this tends to defeat the objective. Step 2 widening the hole. When you have to drill large holes into concrete such as the 2 inch or 4 inch holes you will need to use a core drill. Wherever you want to put the outlet drill a small hole.
A good way of marking where to drill the hole for your wire is to first drill a small pilot hole from the first floor into the basement. Run the drill at a slow to medium speed and pull the drill out periodically to help remove concrete dust from the hole. The hole cannot be larger than one third the depth of the joist so the maximum hole size for a 2 12 joist actual size 1 1 2 x 11 1. Now go up to your attic or down to the basement or crawlspace and drill a hole in the top or bottom wall plate in the same wall cavity as the outlet.
Use the coat hanger to see if everything is fine at this location and there are no obstructions. One to see if the footing under the foundation walls will be in the pipe s way. Always drill straight down into your concrete basement floor. From the top and the bottom if it s a dimensional lumber joist.
Attach the wire or cable to a fish tape or coat hanger using electrical tape and feed it into the hole until it reaches the opening at the other end. Right under the outlet where you want the hole for your wire drill a small hole under the baseboard moulding at the joint of the wall and the floor.
